A Visit From Miss Melody!
This year, we have been taking "music class" from a DVD program called First Note. Once a week we sing, tap the steady beat, learn about musical topics and see multicultural musicians play. This wonderful DVD program is taught by Miss Melody. She sings memorable phrases like "Good-bye, see you next time and always do your best!".
Friday, something amazing happened... Miss Melody showed up in-person and met our students! They couldn't believe she was real! We showed off the music skills we've learned from her all year and she was very impressed. |
Gardening in the Pea Patch
The kindergarten has started a unit on seeds and planting with the help of room 5 parent Katie Welsh. Ms. Welsh has been working hard with all three classes; reading stories about seeds, bringing seeds in for dissection and leading a fun-filled morning of planting with our students last week. We're so excited to learn more about where the food we eat comes from!
Our Trip to Room 22's
Native American Museum
Native American Museum
On Friday, we were invited to visit the Native American Museum in Ms. Lynch's class. The 4th and 5th graders have been studying different Native American tribes and created replicas of their homes, weapons, tools, clothing and food. The students from room 22 were on hand to explain their research to our kindergartners. Awesome work room 22!

Happy 100th Day of School!
Today was the 100th day of kindergarten! Can you believe it? The students in room 2 are 100 days smarter! We celebrated by showing off our counting skills all day long. We did 100 exercises, danced to 100, made a snack of 100 pieces of food, made 100 day hats, wrote sight words to 100 and rolled dice to 100. It was a big day! Zero the Hero visited us and he brought a new friend, the 100 Day Hero! By the end of the day there were 25 100 Day Heroes!
Thank you so much to all the parents that came out to help us celebrate!

Field Trip to the Aquarium
On December 6th, our class went to the Seattle Aquarium. It was such an exciting day! We stopped for a freight train on our bus ride and got to watch the whole train go by. We saw a scuba diver feed fish, used our gentle science fingers to pet starfish and took a class on different types of marine life. Our young scientists put on scuba gear, talked to an octopus and talked about science ALL day! It was a great trip!

Writer's Workshop
Free Choice Fun!
Every afternoon, our students have 20 minutes of free choice time. Although this may seem like play time, it is actually an incredibly important part of their development. Students develop language and problem solving skills as they make believe, plan and create together. Here are some photos of their "work".

Pumpkin Day
Our Field Trip to the Pumpkin Patch!
We had a great time at the pumpkin patch in October! We walked through a garden full of peas, mint and brussels sprouts. We made friends with a family of pygmy goats and gently pet them. Then, we fed pigs apple slices and saw piglets, kittens, ducks, peacocks, turkeys and chickens! We ended our chilly, but exciting day by picking out our very own pumpkins to take home!
Our next trip is to the aquarium and we can't wait! |
